The Iraqi father who suffocated and stabbed his 17-year-old daughter has only one regret over her honor killing: That he didn't murder her "the instant her mother delivered her." "Speaking with a foreign solider, she lost what is the most precious thing for any woman," Abdel-Qader Ali tells the Guardian.

Rand, a student at Basra University, had become infatuated with a British soldier named Paul. Their relationship consisted only of a few conversations, which Abdel-Qader said brought shame on his family. Although he was arrested, police quickly freed him. "The officers were by my side, congratulating me on what I had done," he says. (More Iraq stories.)
