R. Kelly's Old Attorney: 'Guilty as Hell'

As anyone following the travails of R. Kelly knows, his new legal trouble is not his first serious brush with the law. In 2008, he was acquitted of child pornography charges over a video that allegedly showed him having sex with an underage girl. Now, Neil Steinberg of the Chicago Sun-Times catches up with the defense attorney in that case, Ed Genson, and the results won't please the R&B star. “He was guilty as hell!” says Genson, who is 77 and has terminal bile duct cancer. But “I don’t think he’s done anything inappropriate for years," Genson adds. The reason? "I’ll tell you a secret: I had him go to a doctor to get shots, libido-killing shots.”

Genson also has a revealing anecdote about R. Kelly as a songwriter: The attorney says he ordered Kelly to rewrite the lyrics of the song "Ignition" before its release, because it was originally about a high school driving instructor teaching girls how to drive. Genson recalls saying, "Are you crazy?" and Kelly rewrote it. The AP, meanwhile, takes a look at Kelly's finances and reaches a sobering conclusion: Because of tax and legal issues, the singer who grew up poor might end up that way, too. (Gayle King talks about her memorable interview with Kelly.)
