Heads Roll at Schools After Admissions Scam Unveiled

The college admissions scheme in which actresses Lori Loughlin, Felicity Huffman, and dozens of others are accused has already caused heads to roll at at least two of the involved colleges, CNN reports. Stanford University fired head sailing coach John Vandemoer just before he pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy in the case, and the University of Southern California fired senior associate athletic director Donna Heinel and water polo coach Jovan Vavic, both of whom are charged in the scheme. The University of California, Los Angeles, and Wake Forest University have also placed employees on leave in the wake of the scandal, the AP reports.

Huffman's husband, William H. Macy, attended her first court hearing Tuesday, in which the judge said she could be released on $250,000 bond (Macy has not been charged, and authorities have not explained why). Loughlin's husband was arrested Tuesday, but Loughlin has not yet been; she was flying to LA and expected to surrender later Tuesday. The couple's daughter, YouTube star Olivia Jade, apologized Tuesday for a video last year in which she said she was only interested in attending college for the parties, People reports. Meanwhile, the Onion was mocking USC's reputation with a satirical article about the admissions scandal. Sample line: "Since our founding in 1880, applicants have been assessed purely on strength of social class." (In retrospect, this Macy interview is pretty awkward.)
