USA Today has teamed up with the Invisible Institute of Chicago to compile a database of police misconduct cases over the last decade. One interesting feature is a search function—here— in which people can search for decertified officers by specific city departments or officers' names. The records detail about 200,000 incidents of alleged misconduct, most involving "routine infractions." But tens of thousands of cases were more serious, including:
- 22,924 investigations of officers using excessive force
- 3,145 allegations of rape, child molestation, and other sexual misconduct
- 2,307 cases of domestic violence
- 2,227 instances of perjury, tampering with evidence or witnesses, or falsifying reports
- 418 instances of officers obstructing investigations, often when they or someone they knew were the target
- About 2,500 officers were investigated on 10 or more charges, and 20 faced 100 or more allegations
