Georgia's new abortion law—the so-called "heartbeat bill"—is generating heat from Hollywood and elicited an unusual proposal from Alyssa Milano, reports USA Today. The actor and activist urged women on Twitter to join her in a strike against the bill that forbids abortion after a womb heartbeat is detected, usually around six weeks in. "Our reproductive rights are being erased. Until women have legal control over our own bodies we just cannot risk pregnancy," she wrote. "JOIN ME by not having sex until we get bodily autonomy back. I’m calling for a #SexStrike. Pass it on." The tweet has generated over 22,000 likes and 8,000 retweets as of this writing and made the hashtag trend on Saturday.

Needless to say, not all responses were positive. "Please stop feeding the narrative that women are providers and men are consumers of sex," tweeted one person, while another asked, "Isn't this called abstinence? And isn't this exactly what conservatives wanted?" Others note that the so-called #SexStrike will lead to fewer abortions, but a supporter agreed that women "should deny sex to cis men" if they're out to "control our bodies and reproductive organs." Meanwhile, three production companies are refusing to film in Georgia due to the new law, CNN reports, while filmmakers Jordan Peele and JJ Abrams issued a statement that they would stand "shoulder to shoulder with the women of Georgia."
