Meghan McCain was not a fan of Amy Klobuchar's anecdote about John McCain reciting names of dictators during President Trump's inauguration speech. "On behalf of the entire McCain family - @amyklobuchar please be respectful to all of us and leave my fathers legacy and memory out of presidential politics," The View host tweeted Monday. Klobuchar—who discussed her late colleague in front of a crowd of 200 in Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday—did not respond to a request for comment, per USA Today. However, a campaign spokesman said the Democratic presidential candidate "was simply sharing a memory" and has a "deep respect" for McCain's family considering her "long-term friendship" with the Arizona senator, Fox News quotes from a statement.

During her talk in Iowa, the Minnesota senator recalled sitting next to John McCain at the inauguration. “John McCain kept reciting to me names of dictators during that speech because he knew more than any of us what we were facing as a nation. He understood it,” she said, per NBC News. “He knew because he knew this man more than any of us did.” Klobuchar viewed John McCain as a mentor and has defended him from Trump's frequent jibes, notes the Washington Post. (The president's criticism of John McCain has continued after his death.)
