Markets in the US and around the world do not like President Trump's plan to levy new tariffs on Mexico. The Dow was down as much as 300 points at the open, a bit more than 1%, with the NASDAQ and S&P 500 suffering similar percentage losses. The US market mirrors what happened elsewhere, with global stocks down sharply, per the AP. Germany's DAX tumbled nearly 2% to 11,674, while France's CAC 40 shed 1.6% in midday trading to 5,165. Britain's FTSE 100 slid more than 1%. In Asia, Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 dropped 1.6%. Bond yields also fell, reports the Wall Street Journal. (US business leaders and a GOP senator were among those criticizing the new tariffs.)
