Five days before the mysterious deaths of a Maryland couple in their Dominican Republican resort hotel room, a Pennsylvania woman died at the same hotel in similar circumstances. Miranda Schaup-Werner, 41, had an alcoholic drink from the mini-bar in her room, took a selfie, then stood up, "started shrieking, and ... dropped to the floor," the family spokesperson tells Fox News. The all-inclusive Luxury Bahia Principe Bouganville in La Romana confirms Schaup-Werner's death, saying in a statement that she was to be transferred to a hospital in nearby Santo Domingo, but "unfortunately, Mrs. Schaup passed away in the room prior." Her cause of death was determined to be respiratory failure and pulmonary edema—the same causes found, days later, by the autopsies for Edward Nathaniel Holmes and Cynthia Day.

The family spokesperson accuses the hotel of trying to mislead the public into believing Schaup-Werner's death was caused by a heart condition she'd dealt with 15 years prior, even though she had been medically cleared after getting treatment for it. And he notes that when her family heard about the deaths of Holmes and Day at the same hotel—they checked in the day Schaup-Werner died—"That was beyond coincidence. They died five days after, and the cause was determined to be the same, this just puts this whole thing through the stratosphere—something is going on, and we want to know what it is."
