Newspaper Accused of Jinxing St. Louis Blues

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch congratulated the St. Louis Blues on winning the Stanley Cup in its subscriber-only e-edition Sunday, saying: "Congratulations to our champions, the St. Louis Blues." A letter from team chairman Tom Stillman said: "All of us will remember where we were, what we did and how we felt when the Blues brought the Cup home." One problem: The team, which had been leading the series 3-2 and was poised to win its first-ever Stanley Cup at home against the Boston Bruins, hadn't played Game 6 yet, and they went on to lose 5-1 to the Bruins, forcing a Game 7. A screenshot of the edition showed a picture of the team celebrating. The Post-Dispatch later apologized for the error, CBS Boston reports.

"In preparation for the outcome of the Stanley Cup Final, some of our readers got a sneak peek at what our advertisers are hoping to say to the Blues, the fans, and St. Louis," the Post-Dispatch said. "We apologize for the sneak peek and hope to share their messages with everyone very soon!" Game 7 is in Boston on Wednesday, and after the Blues' lackluster performance Sunday, their fans are worried. It's easy to blame the Post-Dispatch "for their incredibly stupid blunder of publishing content online celebrating the Blues winning something they haven’t won. It's the perfect jinx," writes David Rogers at the Sports Daily. "More realistically, it’s easy to blame the Blues who miraculously failed to show up in the biggest game in their history."
