A 45-year-old motorcyclist is dead after his helmet was struck by lightning as he rode in Florida Sunday afternoon, causing a crash that the man did not survive, WFTV reports. The man, who was from Charlotte, North Carolina, was on I-95 south in east-central Florida at the time, ABC News reports. "This is what’s left of a 45 year old man’s helmet after he was struck by lightning, while riding his motorcycle southbound, on I-95 in Volusia County this afternoon," the Florida Highway Patrol's Orlando-area field group posted on Twitter, along with a photo of the helmet. "Unfortunately he did not survive the crash." The man veered off the highway after being struck; his motorcycle overturned and he was thrown some distance, WSOC reports.
