Pelosi: Impeachment 'Not Even Close'

Nancy Pelosi said Tuesday she's tired of the back-and-forth slams with President Trump. "I'm done with him," the House speaker said at a DC event moderated by Manu Raju of CNN. "I don't even want to talk about him," she said. "My stock goes up every time he attacks me, so what can I say, but let's not spend too much time on that because that's his victory, the diverter-in-chief, the diverter-of-attention-in-chief." When Raju pressed her on whether she had indeed told Democrats behind closed doors that she'd like to see Trump in prison, Pelosi would neither confirm nor deny.

"When we have conversations in our caucus they stay in our caucus," she said. "Do people think there's some impeachable offenses that the President committed? Yes. How serious are they? Are they criminal? Many people think they are." Still, Pelosi said that Democrats are "not even close" to impeachment, per the Hill. “Why are we speculating on hypotheticals?" she asked. "What we’re doing is winning in court." By the Hill's count, the number of Democrats in favor of starting an impeachment inquiry has risen to 56, but that's still only about a quarter of Pelosi's caucus. (Trump didn't appreciate the prison comments.)
