He saved his 3-year-old boy from drowning, and died in the effort. Christopher Schultz, 31, of Frazee, Minnesota, immediately jumped into the water when his son fell from a bridge while they were fishing at nearby Dead Shot Bay on Saturday, reports the Duluth News Tribune. But Schultz "began to struggle while keeping the child above the water," according to the Becker County Sheriff's Office, which responded around 8:22pm, per CBS Minnesota. Bystanders entered the water and brought the boy to shore—but Schultz went under.

He was located and pronounced dead shortly after 9pm, by which time his son had been whisked to a hospital, where the boy was described as having non-life-threatening injuries. "He's a hero," Chelsie Schultz says of her husband, noting he would've done the same "even if it wasn't his kid." Christopher's mother tells ABC News that her son was "a great swimmer" as well as "a good, brave father" who was "very close" to his four kids—a 5-year-old boy; 3-year-old twins, a boy and a girl; and a 1-year-old boy. He was fishing with two sons before he drowned, according to a GoFundMe page that has raised $9,500 for the family. (In this case, a son drowned trying to save his father.)
