Apple is recalling some older 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops, saying their batteries could overheat and "pose a fire safety risk." The company said it will replace the batteries free, CNBC reports. The laptops affected lack the Touch Bar keyboard. They were sold from September 2015 to February 2017 and is listed as "MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)" in system settings. Owners can see if their model is affected by punching the serial number into an Apple site.

If the serial number is a hit, owners will have to send the laptop to a repair center and do without it for up to two weeks. A new battery could make an older MacBook Pro last longer than it otherwise would, the Verge points out. That's what happened when Apple offered $29 battery replacements for older iPhones to make up for slowing the speed of those phones. The warranty will not be extended on the affected laptops, Apple said. (More Apple stories.)
