Texas Rep. Al Green has introduced articles of impeachment against President Trump, potentially forcing a vote this week on whether to remove the president from office, the AP reports. The vote would come too soon for most Democrats, as a majority of the caucus appears to oppose impeachment, for now. But Green is seeking to capitalize on a growing sentiment for impeachment in the wake of Trump's racist tweets over the weekend. Green introduced the measure shortly after the House voted to condemn Trump for tweets that four Democratic congresswomen should "go back" to their home countries. All are Americans. Green said Tuesday that Trump is unfit for office and "enough is enough." Any member of the House can force an impeachment vote. Green has done so twice before, unsuccessfully, but this is his first time doing so while Democrats control the House, per CNN.

CNN notes that it's unlikely the House will actually vote on impeachment, but the fact that Green can force the chamber to act on his move within two legislative days is a "dilemma" for Democrats. The House can vote to table the resolution, but that would still, per CNN, "in effect put lawmakers on the record about impeachment"—a subject Democratic leaders and moderate Democrats have been attempting to avoid. Alternately, the House can vote to refer the resolution to the Judiciary Committee, but if Republicans oppose that vote (which they likely will), Democrats would be forced to vote in favor of it in order to get it off the floor. There's no word yet on how House leaders plan to handle the resolution. (More Trump impeachment stories.)
