Dan Quayle began a talk-radio appearance by chatting about sports, but the conversation inevitably drifted to politics—and a little advice the former vice president has for Democrats, the Indianapolis Star reports. "You look at where we are (today) and I look back to how we got things done and we had a Democrat congress," Quayle said Thursday on Query & Schultz (1260-AM) Fox Radio. "We got things done on the environment ... we got budgets through, we saw the Soviet Union disappear and Germany reunited, apartheid in South Africa eliminated. We did all this in four years."

Asked if partisanship has gone too far, the 72-year-old said that "hopefully it's just a passing era." As for the Democrats, if they "put up some total left-winger, you know, for all these socialist programs, yeah, Trump will have a good chance at getting re-elected." He also expressed mixed feelings about Trump: "I could use a little different style for sure," Quayle said. "But what he's accomplished with the economy, with the judicial appointments, taking on China ... I think he's done a lot of good things." Quayle now resides in Paradise Valley, Ariz., and works for an investment firm based in New York. (More politics stories.)
