Turns out Amanda Knox was already married before she began asking for help funding her intergalactic-themed wedding—though she insists "tabloids" are blowing this all out of proportion, AFP reports. On July 20, Knox posted an Instagram video asking fans to "check out" a wedding notice titled "The Knox Robinson Coalescence" that trumpeted her "pre-singularity union" and "cerebral-empathic heat" with Christopher Robinson. A linked registry invited people to donate up to $2,000 for items such as handmade costumes, games and puzzles, black lights and fog machines, child care, hair and makeup, and of course food and drink for the February 2020 event. Then the Telegraph dug up documents showing the pair actually married in Washington state last December.

Knox, 32, says that filing was only for tax and insurance purposes. The real wedding is yet to come: "This 'scandal' is yet another example of irresponsible media profiting by manufacturing outrage," she writes in a press release, calling this more of the "character assassination that I've suffered since I was thrust unwillingly into the spotlight in 2007." She chimed in on Twitter, too: "The tabloids think it's a 'scoop' that @manunderbridge & I filed legal paperwork in December. Guess what? We've also been living together out of wedlock for 3 years. Go back to the 1300s; our wedding remains in the future--leap day, 2020." (See our original report on her wedding plan.)
