They're battening down the hatches in Florida, where Hurricane Dorian is forecast to make landfall as a Category 4 storm on Labor Day—and President Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort is in its potential path. The Palm Beach property is around 100 miles south of Melbourne, which is at the center of the forecast cone, and his Trump Doral resort is 180 miles south of the cone's center, the Miami Herald reports. In a video tweeted Thursday night, the president warned that the storm, currently a Category 2, "could be an absolute monster," the Tampa Bay Times reports. "We're all ready and hopefully we’ll get lucky," he said, "but all indications are it's going to hit very hard and it's going to be very big."
Not everybody, however, is troubled by the possibility of the hurricane hitting Mar-a-Lago. Former Canadian Prime Minister Kim Campbell tweeted Thursday that she was "rooting for a direct hit" on the resort, Fox reports. After critics called her remark "inhuman" and "disgusting," Campbell told them to "get a grip," arguing that Trump should deal with "climate change which is making hurricanes more destructive." Campbell, the only female prime minister in Canadian history, was in office for 132 days in 1993. A state of emergency has been declared in all 67 of Florida's counties, but no mass evacuations have been ordered yet. Florida Power and Light has activated its emergency response plan and is getting crews and equipment in place to restore power after the storm hits, AP reports. (More hurricane stories.)
