The brother of Olympic gymnast Simone Biles has been charged with multiple counts of murder tied to a New Year's Eve shooting in Cleveland, Ohio. Tevin Biles-Thomas, 24, is from Cleveland but was arrested Thursday at Fort Stewart in Georgia, where he's on active duty with the Army, reports NBC News. He's accused in the fatal shooting of three men at a New Year's Eve party at an Airbnb rental in the city's Brooklyn Centre area, per the New York Post. After a confrontation between party-goers and uninvited guests, investigators believe Biles-Thomas opened fire, killing DelVaunte Johnson, 19; Toshaun Banks, 21; and DeVaughn Gibson, 23.
Two others were shot but survived: Cleveland.com describes a 21-year-old man shot in the back of the head and a 23-year-old woman shot in the arm. "The relentless persistence of Cleveland Police Homicide detectives helped secure an indictment in this case," Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O'Malley says, per WKYC, which reports Biles-Thomas is charged with murder, voluntary manslaughter, felonious assault, and perjury. Currently held at Liberty County Jail in Hinesville, Ga., Biles-Thomas is to be arraigned in Cleveland on Sept. 13. His sister has made no comment, per the Post. (Biles just made gymnastics history.)
