James Corden might say he was throwing his weight around. The Late Late Show host delved out a little social commentary Thursday in response to Bill Maher's recent defense of fat-shaming, BuzzFeed reports. "Fat-shaming doesn't need to end; it needs to make a comeback," Maher said on Real Time last Friday. "Some amount of shame is good." But Corden saw it differently: "If making fun of fat people made them lose weight, there'd be no fat kids in schools. And I'd have a six-pack right now." He also complimented Maher and took jabs at their respective film careers—Maher was in Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death, Corden in Lesbian Vampire Killers—but didn't hold back about the fat:

  • "There's a common and insulting misconception that fat people are stupid and lazy and we're not," said Corden, per CNN. "We get it, we know. We know that being overweight isn't good for us and I've struggled my entire life trying to manage my weight and I suck at it."
  • "Fat-shaming is just bullying," he added. "And bullying only makes the problem worse."
  • "We're not all as lucky as Bill Maher. We don't all have a sense of superiority that burns 35,000 calories a day," he said, per Variety.
  • "In the meantime, Bill, while you're encouraging people to think about what goes into their mouths," said Corden. "Just think a little harder about what comes out of yours."
