One suspect has been arrested after a mass shooting in a Kansas City bar that killed four people and injured at least five others early Sunday. Police say Javier Alatorre, 23, was arrested across the state line in Kansas City, Missouri, on Sunday afternoon, hours after authorities released surveillance photos of the two suspected gunmen, the Kansas City Star reports. A second suspect, 29-year-old Hugo Villanueva-Morales, is still at large and police say he should be considered armed and dangerous. Both men have been charged with four counts of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting at the Tequila KC bar.
Police say the two suspects were kicked out of the bar after an earlier altercation and returned with handguns before opening fire on a crowd of around 40 people. The slain victims were all Hispanic men, ranging in age from their late 50s to their mid-20s, CBS reports. Bartender Jose Valdez says one of the men threw a cup in his face earlier in the evening when he refused to serve him. Valdez tells the Kansas City Star that three of the four people killed were regulars whose parents also drank at the bar, while the fourth man was a visitor from out of town. Juan Ramirez tells the Star that one of the victims was his nephew, 29-year-old Alfredo Calderon, who leaves behind a 6-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter. (More shooting stories.)
