Jenni Clemons found another woman sitting in her assigned seat when she boarded her Delta Air Lines flight at Orlando International Airport Saturday, and Clemons alerted flight attendants that they may have been assigned the same seat. Not so: The woman, who had no ID on her but whom authorities have identified as Sylvia Rictor, had no boarding pass. But when flight attendants explained that she was not on the passenger manifest, she insisted she did indeed have a ticket for that flight and had just thrown it out after getting on the plane. When asked to show a photo ID, she showed crew members a selfie on her phone, Clemons tells WESH, and refused to leave even when the pilot came over. "She said very bluntly, 'I'm not moving,'" Clemons tells WFTV. A passenger tells one WFTV reporter the incident went on for 45 minutes.
The crew finally called police, who removed Rictor from the plane, but the plane was stopped after a short taxi when TSA agents realized Rictor didn't have any ticket for any airline, Clemons says. The plane, passengers, and luggage were searched by dogs and TSA agents before being allowed to head off to Atlanta after a total delay of three hours. As for Rictor, she wasn't arrested, but multiple agencies are investigating how she was able to get through a TSA screening (the agency does confirm she was screened) and onto a plane with no ID or boarding pass. "Delta apologizes to customers of Flight 1516 for the delay after a person not ticketed for that flight was removed from the aircraft," an airline rep tells USA Today. "Security officials then directed a precautionary rescreen of everyone onboard. Delta is working with local law enforcement and the [TSA] on their investigation." (More Delta Air Lines stories.)
