After a mayor in Mexico broke a campaign promise to fix a road, angry locals decided they didn't want to wait until the next election to punish him. Jorge Luis Escandón Hernández, mayor of Las Margaritas in Chiapas state, was pulled out of a building, tied to a pickup truck, and dragged through the streets by a group of farmers, the BBC reports. Several people were injured in a brawl between the farmers and dozens of police officers who intervened to stop the truck. Eleven people were arrested. The mayor, who was not seriously injured, says he will press charges for kidnapping and attempted murder. The state attorney general's office says the National Guard has been called in to patrol the town, reports the Washington Post. (More Mexico stories.)
