President Trump's former top Russian adviser testified before House impeachment investigators Monday—and sources tell the New York Times that she had a lot to say about Rudy Giuliani, Ukraine, and John Bolton. The insiders say former National Security Council adviser Fiona Hill told lawmakers that in July, Bolton, her boss at the time, told her to speak to White House lawyers about the shadow foreign policy Giuliani and other Trump allies were carrying out to benefit Trump in Ukraine. "Giuliani’s a hand grenade who’s going to blow everybody up," she quoted him as saying in an earlier conversation. She testified that Bolton told her he didn't want to be part of any "drug deal" Giuliani, ambassador to the EU Gordon Sondland, and then-White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney were cooking up.

Hill, the first former White House official to testify in the impeachment proceedings, told lawmakers she had confronted Sondland about Giuliani's activities, including pressuring the Ukrainians to investigate Joe and Hunter Biden, sources tell the Washington Post. According to the AP, she also told lawmakers that she had strongly objected to the ouster of former ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch. Hill, who left the administration shortly before Trump's July 25 phone call to Ukraine's president, testified for more than 10 hours in the closed-door meeting. Sondland is expected to testify later this week, and the Post's sources say investigators are now considering questioning Bolton. (There was an unusual delay to Hill's testimony.)
