It was supposed to be the number for a suicide hotline that was printed on student ID cards for a California middle school. What ended up there instead: the number for a sex hotline. FOX 11 reports that two digits got transposed on the intended phone number imprinted on IDs for kids at New Vista Middle School in Lancaster, leading students who tried to call in to talk about mental health issues instead being confronted with an X-rated message. CBS Los Angeles has a photo of the back of the card, which contains various resource numbers for students.
"I was just kind of flabbergasted," one parent whose daughter called the number "for kicks" tells KABC. "I was a little upset, yes." That parent's Facebook post about the pornographic phone number went viral, and soon school officials were scrambling to remedy the situation. "The middle school administrators will be collecting all student IDs today and we will be printing new student IDs and distributing them to our students," the Lancaster School District said in a statement Tuesday. "We are very sorry for this error and we are working hard to correct it." (More strange stuff stories.)
