As impeachment proceedings rumble on, President Trump says he'll keep fighting back against allegations that his phone call with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky was inappropriate. And as part of his strategy, he's mulling using T-shirts and what Fox News calls an "FDR-esque" tactic. On Thursday, the Washington Examiner conducted a "free-ranging, 80-minute conversation" with the commander in chief, and key among his talking points was that he shouldn't face impeachment, since, unlike predecessors confronted with the same, Trump says he's blameless. "Everybody knows I did nothing wrong," he said. "Bill Clinton did things wrong; Richard Nixon did things wrong. I won't go back to [Andrew] Johnson because that was a little before my time. But they did things wrong. I did nothing wrong."
And to convince the country of the "good call" between himself and Zelensky, Trump has a plan. "At some point, I'm going to sit down, perhaps as a fireside chat on live television, and I will read the transcript of the call, because people have to hear it," he said. "When you read it, it's a straight call." He added that T-shirts bearing the line "Read the transcript" could also be in the mix; he's been posting that same mantra on Twitter over the past month. Trump also spoke more on the House vote Thursday that approved rules for the next impeachment phase.
