Democrats flipped both houses of the Virginia legislature in Tuesday's election, giving them control of both the legislature and the governorship for the first time in 26 years. "I'm here to officially declare today, Nov. 5, 2019, that Virginia is officially blue," Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam told supporters in Richmond. The GOP had slender majorities in both houses before the election, but Democrats picked up seats for the state Senate and the House of Delegates in areas including Richmond and the Washington, DC, suburbs, the AP reports. The party has promised to raise the minimum wage and reform gun laws, reports CNN. (More Virginia stories.)
