Still feeling the void left by Grumpy Cat? Meet Quilty, aka Houdini, aka "spicy a-hole," who's been terrorizing a Texas animal shelter. It seems the 6-year-old rescue cat hates being locked up—so much so that he repeatedly freed himself and his feline friends from their room at the Friends for Life shelter in Houston. "We would come in in the morning and have to collect all 15 of the cats who had had a blast during the night," a shelter rep tells CNN. Explaining the nickname "spicy a-hole," she adds that surveillance video showed the guilty Quilty—who used to open the door for his "dog sibling" at his former home, per a Facebook post by the shelter—jumping up and pulling on the door handle on three separate occasions.
It turns out Quilty doesn't like "solitary confinement," either. Photos shared across his very popular Instagram account with some 30,000 followers show an angry Quilty pawing at the walls of his glass prison in the shelter lobby. He even sought to get the word out, hawking #FreeQuilty and #QuiltyNotGuilty shirts online. It worked in the end. "The hairless monkeys FINALLY granted my purrole," Quilty announced on Instagram before his adoption by a new family, hopefully one with "good locks," per CNET. But if you're one of the thousands of people wishing Quilty was all your own, all hope might not be lost. According to Quilty, "We'll see if this family is good enough for me, I've got standards, ya know?" (More cats stories.)
