TI has spoken out on what he calls "hymen-gate"—and the rapper/actor seems a little surprised by the uproar that followed his claim that he takes his teenage daughter to a gynecologist for annual virginity checks. TI, who appeared on Jada Pinkett Smith's "Red Table Talk" with his wife, Tiny, said his intentions had been "terribly misconstrued," NBC reports. "From a place of truth, I began to embellish and exaggerate and I think that a lot of people kind of took it extremely literal," he said. "I honestly thought people knew me better than that." "I never said I was in any exam room ... That is a falsity," he said, adding that he "never said that it was being done present day" now that daughter Deyjah Harris is 18.

"Our women, black women, are the most unprotected … women on the planet. I’m being criticized because I’m willing to go above and beyond to protect beyond mine," he complained, per BuzzFeed. TI says he is "incredibly apologetic" to his embarrassed daughter, who stopped following him on social media after his remarks earlier this month, but not to "any of these weirdos who toss lies around for free." EJ Dickson at Rolling Stone predicts that after the "clarification," TI's publicist will be banging his head against a desk. "So there you have it: no, TI did not subject his daughter to hymen checks, you oversensitive weirdos," she writes. "Except he totally did, except he wasn’t in the room at the time, and also he’s very sorry… for getting in so much trouble by talking about it publicly." (More T.I. stories.)
