Family Gives Up Pawn Shop Owner in Mass-Murder Case

The FBI made an arrest Saturday connected to the mass shooting that shocked Jersey City this week, CBS New York reports. Detained is Ahmed A-Hady, 35, who was charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm—which could put him away for 10 years. Searching his New Jersey pawnshop, authorities found "six rifles (including three AR-15-style assault rifles), three handguns, and one shotgun," officials said, along with 400 rounds of ammo including hollow-point bullets at his home. His link to the shooting that killed three civilians and a police officer Tuesday? A note with his business address and phone number on one of the shooters, per the Washington Post.

Federal prosecutors say he "falsely denied" keeping two handguns in the store—but a relative of his later told authorities he had a safe at the store with guns stashed inside, per NBC New York. Whether A-Hady sold shooters Francine Graham and David Anderson any of their weapons remains an open question; Graham apparently bought a shotgun and .22-caliber handgun legally in Ohio in 2018, but they also used two semi-automatic handguns and an AR-15 rifle. A-Hady's brother, Adem, insists his family knew nothing about the shooters or their apparent anti-Semitic screed. "We don't sell weapons," Adem tells CBS New York.
