It was an otherwise ho-hum 5-yard TD pass in a blowout game, but it also just happened to be the 540th touchdown pass in quarterback Drew Brees' career. And with that, the Saints' QB passed Peyton Manning for the NFL record, reports ESPN. For added measure, Brees notched another one later in the game, a 34-7 win over the Colts, which means the new mark stands at 541 and counting. "I'm not sure how we got here. It just kind of makes your whole life and career flash before your eyes," said the 40-year-old. Brees does not have a lock on keeping the record, however. The current No. 3 on the all-time list is none other than Tom Brady, who has 538.

And Brady's congratulatory tweet made clear that the 42-year-old is gunning for the mark, too, notes the Boston Globe. "Congrats drew!! Couldn’t be more deserving," Brady wrote. "Passing Peyton in anything is an incredible achievement and your records will be tough to beat! But it’s worth trying." One nice bonus for Brees: He is beloved in New Orleans, both on and off the field, and he set the record in front of the hometown fans. "Just an incredible night, incredible experience, incredible moment—to be able to share that with so many people, because all of them are a big part of this." (More Drew Brees stories.)
