President Trump was on stage at a rally in Battle Creek, Michigan, Wednesday night as he became the third president in American history to be impeached. He kept talking for two hours and one minute, making the second-longest speech of his presidency. Trump slammed the impeachment efforts as "illegal" and accused Democrats of "subverting American democracy," the AP reports. "After three years of sinister witch hunts, hoaxes, scams, tonight the House Democrats are trying to nullify the ballots of tens of millions of patriotic Americans," he said. When an aide held up a sign with the results of the House vote, Trump boasted that "every single Republican," along with three Democrats, had voted "for us."

Trump said Democrats "have branded themselves with an eternal mark of shame," per CBS. Trump also singled out several Democratic lawmakers for criticism, including Rep. Debbie Dingell. He slammed the Michigan lawmaker for voting for impeachment after thanking him earlier this year for his "A-plus" treatment following the death of her husband, former Rep. John Dingell, the Hill reports. He suggested the late Democrat might be in hell, saying Debbie Dingell had told him, "He's looking down. He'd be so thrilled." Trump told the rally: "Maybe he's looking up. I don’t know." The Detroit Free Press reports that many attendees were "streaming for the exits" before Trump, the first president to be outside the capital when they were impeached, had finished speaking.
