Alex Jones and his Infowars website haven't even gone to trial yet regarding a lawsuit brought against him by a Sandy Hook family, but the case has already put him nearly $130,000 in the hole, not counting his own expenses. Per the Daily Beast, in addition to an October ruling against Infowars, a Texas judge earlier this month ordered the conspiracy theorist to pay more than $100,000 in court costs and legal fees regarding a suit brought by Neil Heslin, father of slain Newtown 6-year-old Jesse Lewis. The judge's ruling on Dec. 20 came via two separate judgments of $65,825 and $34,323, which were lobbed at Jones and Infowars for ignoring an October court order to provide witnesses and supporting documents.
Judge Scott Jenkins of Travis County District Court also rejected Jones' motion to dismiss Heslin's defamation suit, which accuses Jones of claiming the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting was a hoax, and that the parents of the murdered children were merely "crisis actors." In his ruling, Jenkins noted Jones' and Infowars' choice to defy the October order "should be treated as contempt of court," per the New York Times. "Mr. Jones is learning that he cannot treat the courts with the same contempt he showed my clients," Mark Bankston, Heslin's attorney, tells the Times, adding to the Daily Beast: "He is learning there are severe consequences to his utter disrespect for this process."
