President Trump hasn't actually seen Parasite, but he is still certain that the South Korean movie should not have won the Oscar for best picture. "How bad were the Academy Awards this year, did you see?" he asked a crowd at a campaign rally in Colorado Springs Thursday night. He impersonated an announcer saying, "And the winner is ... a movie from South Korea," CNN reports. "What the hell was that all about?" Trump asked. "We've got enough problems with South Korea with trade, on top of it they give them the best movie of the year? Was it good? I don't know." The president added: "I thought it was 'best foreign film,' no?"
Parasite was the first non-English language movie to win best picture. Director Bong Joon-ho won the Oscar for best director. The crowd booed when the Academy Awards were mentioned but cheered when Trump said: "Can we get like Gone with the Wind back please? Sunset Boulevard, so many great movies," the AP reports. Neon, Parasite's US distributor, fired back at Trump, tweeting: "Understandable, he can't read." Trump also slammed Brad Pitt, who, when accepting the award for best supporting actor, joked about the Senate's refusal to allow John Bolton to testify, the Hollywood Reporter notes. "He got up, said a little wise guy thing," Trump said. "He's a little wise guy." (More Academy Awards stories.)
