The Bath Township Police Department in Michigan has a "wildly popular" Facebook page, per MLive.com, and the department's latest confiscation shows just why that may be. On Jan. 27, during an early-morning traffic stop, cops there found a "very odd combination" of drugs (methamphetamine, specifically) and weapons. Along with the illegal stimulant, syringes, pistol, ominous-looking knife, and assault rifle, one item in particular stood out: what MLive.com describes as "a peculiar sword that looks like it was swiped straight from the set of Lord of the Rings." Its alternate name, per a hashtag the police department used to accompany its post documenting the seizure: "Ancient Sword of the Meth King."
The department also makes a Lord of the Rings reference, using a second hashtag of #LordOfTheRingsMeetsJohnWick (John Wick is about a retired hit man.) The New Zealand Herald cites commenters who point out that the sword appears to be a replica of one that's seen in a well-known Japanese manga animation. "So they just stole all of a cosplayers gear??" reads one amused remark under the photo. Actually, there was a second item in the picture that generated some additional attention: a hole puncher, which MLive.com reports was left in the photo as a joke by officers. "You guys are underestimating the three-hole punch," the department wrote in the comments. "You get one of your pinkies in that bad boy and you're going to have a bad day."
