The health team leader for Bloomberg News in New York City flags something the city is doing right amid its coronavirus outbreak: publishing very detailed data in real time. In a series of tweets, Drew Armstrong pointed out the "great data transparency. Would be great to have even more granular info on patient comorbidities, but in the meantime, keep it coming @nycHealthy." So what does the data say so far? As of 5pm Tuesday:

  • Those in the 18-to-64 age range made up a majority of cases, with the breakdown as follows: Of the 15,597 cases, 2% were those under 18, 46% were ages 18 to 44, 33% were 45 to 64, 11% were 65 to 74, and 8% were 75 or older.
  • As in other places, infected males are outpacing infected females, with the gender breakdown at 57% to 43%.
  • When it comes to the 192 deaths recorded, none were children, 3% were under 44, 22% were 45 to 64, 23% were 65 to 74, and 52% were 75 or older.
  • Gender-wise, 61% of those to die were male.
  • Of those who died, 95% had an underlying illness, which includes things like diabetes, lung disease, cancer, asthma, and kidney disease.
