If feeling safe is a high priority when it comes to where you live, then the city of Columbia, Maryland, might be worth checking out. A new analysis at WalletHub ranks the city as the safest in the country. The ranking, however, factors in more than crime stats. It also takes into account everything from the risk of natural disasters to financial security (think health care and mortgages). Columbia lands on top, while Vermont is the only state to have two cities in the top 10. The safest US cities, along with their overall score out of 100:

  1. Columbia, Maryland, 84.52
  2. South Burlington, Vermont, 83.99
  3. Plano, Texas, 81.20
  4. Nashua, New Hampshire, 80.80
  5. Lewiston, Maine, 80.59
  6. Burlington, Vermont, 80.55
  7. Salem, Oregon, 80.03
  8. Virginia Beach, Virginia, 79.68
  9. Raleigh, North Carolina, 79.55
  10. Gilbert, Arizona, 79.00
