Update: Police in Connecticut believe two officers killed in Bristol Wednesday were shot after a 911 call was placed in a "deliberate act to lure law enforcement to the scene," the New York Times reports. Investigators believe Nicholas Brutcher, 35, made the call about a domestic dispute with his brother, then waited to ambush officers with an AR-15-style rifle. Sources tell NBC Connecticut that Brutcher made the call after getting kicked out of a bar. Brutcher was fatally shot during the incident and his brother, 32-year-old Nicholas Brutcher, was injured. Police haven't said who shot them—or what Brutcher's motivation was. Sgt. Police sources tell ABC News that the gunman, who was also killed, called 911 himself and then apparently ambushed the officers, opening fire with an AR-15-style rifle. The slain officers have been identified as Sgt. Dustin Demonte, 35, and Officer Alex Hamzy, 34, NBC Connecticut reports. Both men were married, and Demonte had two children, with a third on the way. A third officer, 26-year-old Officer Alec Iurato, was seriously injured.
Sgt. Christine Jeltema of the Connecticut State Police said Thursday morning that the officers were called to a possible domestic violence incident involving two brothers, the Hartford Courant reports. She said the suspect's brother was also injured and taken to a hospital, but she didn't disclose his condition. Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont called the incident a "senseless tragedy" and asked residents to keep the injured officer in their prayers. "This is a devastating reminder of the dangers that police officers face every day to protect our families and neighbors from all kinds of situations," he said.

The shootings happened on a tough day for law enforcement, CNN reports. Hours before the Connecticut shooting, three SWAT officers in Philadelphia were shot and injured while trying to serve a warrant to a homicide suspect. The suspect was killed and the officers are expected to recover, police said. In Innisfil, Ontario, two officers identified as Constable Devon Northrup, 33, and Constable Morgan Russell, 54, were fatally shot after responding to a call about a domestic disturbance on Wednesday, CTV reports.
