Police in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, are searching for a suspect who reflects longtime warnings about child molesters: The man allegedly tried to lure a girl into his van with candy. Police say the man made two attempts last week to abduct a 10-year-old girl, NBC Miami reports. Police say the girl told them that in an incident she didn't immediately report to authorities, the man offered her candy and money when she was on her way to school. She refused and managed to get away after the man attempted to grab her, police say. The same man approached her on foot the next morning, and she ran away toward her school, police say.
Surveillance video released by police Friday shows the girl running from the man, Fox reports. Police also released a photo of the suspect. They described him as a white man of medium build, 30 to 40 years of age and 5'10" to 6' tall. Police said Monday that the suspect used a black cargo van with a sliding door, possibly an older model with damage to the rear door or rear taillight, Local10 reports. (More Florida stories.)
