After the anti-Semitic remarks made by the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, the Holocaust Museum of Los Angeles invited Ye for a private tour. Since doing so, the museum says it has received a deluge of anti-Semitic messages, the Los Angeles Times reports. As for Ye, he revealed on a rap podcast that he had declined the offer, CBS Los Angeles reports. The back-and-forth:

  • "Words matter and have consequences Ye," read the museum's Oct. 11 invitation to the rapper. "We urge you to come visit us at Holocaust Museum LA to understand just how words can incite horrific violence and genocides. The Holocaust started with only words that sadly begat stereotypes, racial and religious tropes and blaming others and led the murder of six million Jews."

  • Four days later, Ye said on the "Drink Champs" podcast that he wouldn't be going to the museum, and added that in his opinion, for Black people, Planned Parenthood clinics are "our Holocaust museum."
  • "Ye, since we invited you to visit us at Holocaust Museum LA we have received a tremendous amount of social media messages and comments...some filled with hate, threats, and vitriol. Others were saddled with hurt and yearned for further discourse," the museum tweeted shortly after issuing the invite.
  • After his podcast appearance, the CEO of the museum added in an interview, "We publicly invited him to come to the museum and he publicly rejected our offer. ... I think Kanye has more than double the amount of Twitter followers than there are Jews living in this world. People like Kanye have a huge platform, he has over 30 million Twitter followers and he needs to understand that he needs to use his words to inspire and not incite and to not perpetuate hate and lies and an anti-Semitism."
  • Apparently emboldened by Ye's open anti-Semitic rhetoric, fliers with racist conspiracy theories about Jewish people have been placed at homes and on cars around Los Angeles; a hate group also flew a banner on a freeway overpass in the area reading, "Kanye is right about the Jews" while giving the Nazi salute.
(Ye has been dropped by his talent agency and many partners, including Adidas, leaving him no longer a billionaire.)
