This story has been updated with the suspect's arrest. One person was killed and four others were injured, three of them critically, in a shooting at a hospital in Midtown Atlanta around 1pm Wednesday, the Atlanta Police Department says. CNN reports that police say the gunman opened fire in a waiting room on the 11th floor of Northside Hospital Medical. Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum told reporters that a 39-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, the AP reports. All four injured victims are women, ages 25, 39, 56, and 71.
A manhunt was launched for the suspect, 24-year-old Delon Patterson, and police announced Wednesday evening that he was in custody. Patterson was arrested in a condominium complex in Cobb County, per CNN, about 11 miles from the site of the shooting. Schierbaum had said Patterson's family was cooperating with investigators. The chief said Patterson's mother, who was with him at the hospital, was not injured. Police said earlier in the evening that the suspect is believed to have carjacked a vehicle, per 11Alive.
