Mugshots Follow Surrender of Trump's Co-Accused
This booking photo shows John Eastman on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2023. The conservative attorney who pushed a plan to keep then-President Trump in power turned himself in to authorities Tuesday on charges in the Georgia case alleging an illegal plot to overturn the former president’s 2020 election loss.   (Fulton County Sheriff's Office via AP)

Four of former President Trump's co-defendants in the Georgia election interference case have turned themselves in, and two have had their mugshots released, while three others are fighting to avoid appearing at Fulton County Jail at all. The latest:

  • More surrenders: Georgia bail bondsman Scott Hall surrendered just before John Eastman was released Tuesday, per the Washington Post. Former Georgia Republican Party Chairman David Shafer and alleged fake elector Cathy Latham surrendered overnight on Wednesday, per CBS News. They were each released on $75,000 bond, Hall on $10,000 bond.

  • Appeal: Shafer has joined former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and former Justice Department official Jeffrey Clark in asking a federal judge to move their cases out of state court. They argue they were performing duties as federal officials, making them immune from state-level charges.
  • No extensions: A hearing on Meadows' request is set for 10am Monday. Meadows asked Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to extend the Friday noon deadline for surrender until after that time. But Willis refused in a Tuesday email, saying she would "file warrants in the system" at 12:30pm Friday.
  • Mugshots: Late Tuesday, the Fulton County Sheriff's Office said it would release mugshots of those charged in the case at 4pm daily until the last has surrendered, per ABC News. Mugshots of Eastman and Hall were released Tuesday night, per NBC News.

  • Giuliani: Former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani will follow Shafer and Latham in surrendering Wednesday after a bond package is finalized, per ABC. Amid financial difficulties, he's pleading for cash to assist with his legal defense. Trump will headline a $100,000 per person fundraiser for the cause at his New Jersey golf club on Sept. 7, per the Daily Beast.
  • Trump: Security measures have been ramped up around Fulton County Jail as the former president is expected to surrender Thursday, with bond set at $200,000. He will sit for a mugshot, per the Daily Beast.
  • Bond negotiations: These continued Tuesday with a judge approving a $100,000 bond for Trump campaign attorney Jenna Ellis; $50,000 bond for Michael Roman, director of Trump's Election Day operations; and $14,000 bond for lawyer Robert Cheeley, who allegedly helped organize fake electors, per the AP.
