Pioneering Doc Accused of Sex Abuse

Dr. Melvin Levine, famous in his field for pioneering new ways of understanding children with learning disabilities, is followed by allegations of sexually abusing young patients. The accusations span decades of his career, the New York Times reports in investigating the trail of charges. In March, a lawyer who had sued the Archdiocese of Boston, accused the pediatrician of abusing five one-time patients.

Since then, 43 more people claim to have been similarly abused. Dr. Levine says the accusations are untrue and that he never touched a patient sexually. And even if they are,  his contributions to education will not be diminished, says the CEO of the nonprofit founded by the doctor: “We wouldn’t back away from using the incredible groundbreaking ideas and compassion in understanding how children’s minds work.” (More Melvin Levine stories.)
