It doesn’t do Barack Obama any good just to say he feels strongly—voters need to be able to see it from the Democratic candidate, Joe Klein writes in Time. His message on the economy, this year’s key issue, won’t work until he can show some “real passion” to voters. “Obama will have a hard time winning unless he finds some of it.”

Obama can’t cut the Republicans any slack on the economy, James Carville adds on CNN.com. “There's no need to listen to McCain's marginal rates, death tax, deregulation, trickle-down, supply-side shenanigans.” It’s not enough just to talk about the issues, though, says Carville. “My last piece of advice to Obama and his team is to just get mad about something.”
