Singer John Mayer and tennis star James Blake weren't girl-magnets in school, Blake tells People. Old pals, they spent hours during elementary and junior high years playing video games. "I don't know what he likes to tell about his high school experience," Blake said, "but I definitely didn't have girls flocking around me."

"I was about five feet tall wearing a back brace" because of scoliosis, said Blake, who hung with Mayer this week at a New York cancer benefit. Now Blake is considered one of People's top bachelors and Mayer recently split from Jennifer Aniston—but neither needs a wingman. Mayer "can just stand there," said Blake, "and people are impressed that I know him!"
