Prof Rips UCLA for 'Illegal' Race Admissions

A UCLA professor is accusing the school of admitting students based on race even though the practice remains illegal in California, the Los Angeles Times reports. Tim Groseclose resigned this week from an admissions committee and posted an 89-page report online accusing the university of a "coverup." "A growing body of evidence strongly suggests that UCLA is cheating on admissions," he wrote.

UCLA officials retorted that more black students were attending the school because of other factors, such as outreach activities. "He's taking an outcome and from that deducing a cause," an official said. But a UC regent who opposes race-based admissions disagreed, saying UCLA had "caved under the pressure from the NAACP and others in Los Angeles who want to see an increase in the number of black students."
