Twenty people were treated for electrocution after lightning struck a South Carolina lake Tuesday afternoon. Authorities say the eight adults and 12 minors, a dozen of whom were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, are all expected to recover, CBS News reports. "Strong relationships with other local agencies played a critical role in ensuring a quick, coordinated response, allowing first responders to assess patients efficiently and provide the best possible care," the county says in a statement.
The incident took place on the beach at Dreher Shoals Dam at Lake Murray Public Park, owned by Dominion Energy and also known as Dominion Beach Park. It was closed Tuesday night but expected to reopen Wednesday after safety assessments, NBC News reports. A county rep says Tuesday was a "super hot and sunny" day. "It didn't rain or anything like that; it was just a random storm cloud that went by," she says. (Lightning recently killed a man on his honeymoon in Florida.)
