Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin talked tough on foreign policy today and said she feels ready to step into the presidency if something were to happen to John McCain. Asked by ABC's Charlie Gibson in her first TV interview since joining the ticket if she felt prepared, she responded, "I do, Charlie, and on January 20, when John McCain and I are sworn in, if we are so privileged to be elected to serve this country, we'll be ready. I'm ready."
Palin said she "didn't blink" when McCain asked her to be his running mate. "I didn't hesitate, no," she said. "I answered him 'yes' because I have the confidence in that readiness." Palin answered "perhaps so" when asked if the US should be willing to go to war with Russia to defend nations such as Georgia. "I mean, that is the agreement when you are a NATO ally, is if another country is attacked, you're going to be expected to be called upon and help." Pressed on the issue, she also suggested economic sanctions.
