In a letter to Trump on Friday, Gabbard cited her husband's fight with a rare bone cancer. "I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle," she wrote. Her last day is June 30. Gabbard, who has led the Office of the Director of National Intelligence for about 18 months, thanked Trump for the opportunity and pledged a "smooth and thorough transition." The Journal notes that while her departure comes amid war with Iran, the former Democratic congresswoman wasn't closely involved in the decision-making for the conflict. Still, NBC News notes that she doesn't appear to have been forced from her position, as was the case with former Attorney General Pam Bondi and former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
