Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann has prompted so much outrage by attacking Barack Obama's patriotism that she’s attracted an opponent who doesn’t even want to win. He just wants to help her lose, writes Nick Coleman in the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Bachmann also recently suggested that every member of Congress should be investigated for anti-Americanism. The subsequent uproar raised $800,000 for her Democratic opponent, and drew an independent challenger.

The independent, Aubrey Immelman, is a moderate who lost to Bachmann in the GOP primary. Says Immelman, “I cannot tolerate this festering brand of neo-McCarthyism Michele Bachmann is pushing.” Bachmann could still win, writes Coleman. “But her mouth has made it harder for her, and sanity just might be making a late comeback in the Sixth District.”
