No one has emerged as a clear-cut favorite to chair the Republican National Committee, writes Chris Cillizza in the Washington Post, but plenty of politicians are interested. Here’s a rundown on who has a hat in—or near—the ring:

  • Mike Duncan: Many dismiss the current chairman’s re-election chances, but the committee members may want an insider.
  • Michael Steele: The closest thing the race has to a frontrunner, Steele has an experienced team and a bit of star power, thanks to his well-received “Drill Baby, Drill” convention speech.

  • Saul Anuzis: The determined Michigan GOP head has support from five state chairs, but his state went deep blue in the election.
  • Chip Saltsman: Mike Huckabee’s campaign manager is waging a door-to-door campaign. But some think he’s more focused on the Huckster’s 2012 efforts.
  • Katon Dawson: The exceedingly ambitious South Carolina chair is selling himself as a true Reaganite.
  • Jim Nussle: Still mulling it over, but Bush ties could hurt him.
  • Jim Greer: Florida chair is also on the fence. He's a strong fundraiser, but his moderate views might hurt him.
